William “Randy” Squires III

For more than fifty years, Randy Squires has tried lawsuits in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere. His experience base is broad: a five-year apprenticeship with a pioneer construction litigation boutique (where, among other things, he built the firm’s construction labor practice); twenty years with Davis Wright Tremaine, a large regional, now national firm, the last ten as chair of the firm’s Litigation Group; and nearly ten years as a founding member and CEO of the innovative Summit Law Group. Randy’s effectiveness has been recognized by his 1998 induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers; his inclusion in Best Lawyers (including his listing, as an employment lawyer, in that publication’s inaugural 1983 edition); and his inclusion in each edition of Chambers’ compilation of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Randy has been selected to Super Lawyers in Washington each year since Washington Law & Politics began sponsoring its listing in 2000.

As counsel for Fluor, negotiated complex settlement of claims by eleven Hanford workers claiming exposure to “toxic soup” in explosion in plutonium processing facility.
National Radio-Astronomy Observatory and Comsat
As counsel to NRAO in three-month arbitration, defeated design/build contractor’s claims for changes and delay that would have doubled project cost.
In re Hanford Downwinder Litigation
Appointed defense liaison counsel in consolidated, 4000-plaintiff toxic exposure case. Co-counsel in two successful bellwether jury trials. Negotiated dismissal of Westinghouse Electric Co.
Radiation Sterilizers, Inc. v. United States, et al.
Obtained dismissal, on summary judgment, of $450 million defective design claim asserted against Battelle related to leaking cesium heat source used in irradiation facility.
In re Washington Public Power Supply System
For some fifteen years, served as counsel to trustees for some $6 billion of “net billed” WPPSS project bonds regarding potential default issues and litigation by holders of defaulted bonds.
